Getting back *NSYNC
(3/24/04) People Online

Boy band fans, rejoice: Rumors of an imminent 'NSync reunion appear to be true. "I'm sure we will," Joey Fatone told Daily Insider at the recent CD release party for bandmate JC Chasez's solo effort, Schizophrenic, at New York hotspot Marquee. "It's odd to say, you may not believe it, but yeah, we are. Everybody's doing their own thing right now — JC has his CD, (Justin Timberlake is) shooting a movie — but we do want to get together." 'NSync-er Lance Bass concurs. "We're waiting for Justin to finish his movie and then we'll get back to the studio," says the former aspiring cosmonaut. "We'll have a new album by 2005 — at least, that's my opinion."

Real story: Journalism not as glamorous as it's portrayed
(3/24/04) Heidi Stevens Chicago Tribune

Reality TV has brought us a construction worker pretending to be a millionaire ("Joe Millionaire"); a former Miss USA contestant pretending to be an overweight gal with a heart of gold ("Average Joe"); an overweight actor pretending to be a big, fat, obnoxious fiance ("My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance"); straight men pretending to be gay ("Boy Meets Boy"); and gay men pretending to be straight ("Playing it Straight").

Who's left to impersonate?

Well, journalists.

...And who can forget Justin Timberlake's much anticipated follow-up role to Innocent Victim of a Wardrobe Malfunction? Timberlake will star in "Edison" as an ace reporter who uncovers a police corruption scandal...

In Our Culture, Little Things Matter
(3/24/04) Alex Lekas Up & Coming Magazine (Lafayette, NC)

As Ross Perot remarked during a past presidential campaign, the devil's in the details. It is a truism that is lost on some of the great thinkers among us, in this case JC Chasez of the group 'N Sync, who is a little out of synch over the public backlash regarding his industry's contribution to the cultural slope to perdition. It's always interesting when folks like him take the time to think deep thoughts and tell the rest of us how narrow-minded we are. Young JC finds it 'hilarious' that a nation at war and in an election year finds time to get its skirt in a bunch over decency standards.

The war and the election are political issues; decency standards are a cultural issue, but the two are intertwined. The freedom to eat what you want, drive the vehicle you like, a porn star speaking at UNC/Greensboro on the taxpayer's dime, the current dustup over gay marriage, and the pervasiveness of political correctness are cultural concerns founded of a political mindset. In other words, there is an agenda behind them...

Maybe JC is right; maybe standards are too much to ask for in a society that constantly seeks to redefine them. Then again, he's run afoul of the PC police, having titled his solo project Schizophrenia. It's making mental health advocates crazy. That line probably will, too. And, so it goes.
