JC Chasez Opening For Britney In U.K., Lines Up Solo Dates
(3/29/04) Corey Moss MTV

Britney Spears has at least one friend left from her "Mickey Mouse Club" days.

JC Chasez, who starred on the revamped TV series along with Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, will open for Britney when the pop princess performs eight shows in the U.K. beginning April 26 at Wembley Arena in London. The stint, which includes three other Wembley shows, wraps up May 5 in Birmingham.

The 'NSYNC singer, who is promoting his solo debut, Schizophrenic, will bookmark the British trip with four West Coast dates before and a handful of Midwest and East Coast dates afterward.

"Right now my whole world is this record," Chasez said recently. "I'm proud of this record. I want everybody to hear this record. And I want to sing it for everybody."

Before launching his U.S. tour April 19 in Anaheim, California, JC will shoot a video for the album's second single, "All Day Long I Dream About Sex." The director and concept have not yet been decided.

"All Day Long I Dream About Sex" was produced by Riprock 'n' Alex G, the duo behind the equally steamy "Some Girls (Dance With Women). The tune is a more electronic and club-friendly, however, with its oft-repeated chorus.

Chasez said he titled the album Schizophrenic after its wide array of styles, or personalities.

"I didn't think in terms of any barriers, I was just wide open with it," he said. "I didn't go for any certain sound. I just went for great tunes ... and it didn't matter what kind of music it was. If it was electronica, if it was rock, if it was ballads, whatever, I made something that felt really good."

JC Chasez tour dates, according to Jive Records:
4/19 - Anaheim, CA @ House of Blues
4/21 - Las Vegas, NV @ House of Blues
4/22 - West Hollywood, CA @ House of Blues
4/25 - San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
5/7 - Chicago, IL @ House of Blues
5/8 - Pontiac, MI @ Clutch Cargo
5/9 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Chevrolet Amphitheatre
5/10 - Pittston, PA @ The Staircase
5/12 - New York, NY @ Roseland Ballroom
5/13 - Philadelphia, PA @ The Trocadero
5/14 - Atlantic City, NJ @ Trump Taj Mahal

Is Timberlake planning to spoof Jackson stunt?
(3/29/04) Jeannette Walls with Ashley Pearson MSNBC

The bodice-ripping ex-boybander is appearing in a flick called “Played,” says a source, who adds that Timberlake appears as both himself and Jackson in a send-up of the infamous Super Bowl incident.

“It’s a cameo in which he makes a reference to the whole thing,” says the insider, who has links to Timberlake. “This whole thing just won’t go away, so I guess he figures he might as well have fun with it.”

The movie, which will star Rob Schneider of “50 First Dates,” is a comedy about the world of celebrity and also has cameos from Adam Sandler and Ashton Kutcher, says the source.

Timberlake’s spokesman flatly denies the story. But the Internet Movie Database has Timberlake playing “Justin/Janet” on the movie “Played.” Weird coincidental hoax? “I don’t know what the [heck] this is,” his rep told The Scoop. “But it’s not true.”

Gary Taylor: Real Man, Real Love, Real Music.
(3/29/04) Angela Spann EURWeb

...Why has this multi-talented entertainer remained independent of the major labels?

"Primarily because the music industry isn't about music anymore. When Justin Timberlake can be R&B, I don't want to be R&B. When Boyz II Men can be three or four steps below N'Sync in R&B, I don't want to be R&B," explains Taylor. "R&B, the way I was told by Steve Ivory, as quoted by James Brown, is real and black. So, it's real black music and that's [where] it came from..."

Basement Jaxx Gives JC Chasez The Jaxx Factor
(3/29/04) Dance Front Door (UK)

NSYNC star JC Chasez is the latest singer to get the Basement Jaxx treatment.

Basement Jaxx hooked up with JC while he was on a trip to London. He wanted some advice about producing his solo album so he popped into their studio for a cup of tea and ended up singing on their new track. They say the Prince-like vocals were all JC and they didn't actually expect him to sound like that.

They've already remixed Justin Timberlake, but what were they expecting from his bandmate?

"Well a bit of a dubious character you expect, he's from a boyband, a big American boyband. But he turned up, he was really humble, he flattered us a lot and told us our music was great, and he seemed to know about it, it wasn't b******* so yeah, it was really good."

"He's a cool guy. I think it always helps, definitely, a bit of flattery!"

Out of Sync
(3/29/04) Bill Picture San Francisco Examiner

Is Justin Timberlake's ex Britney Spears trying to put the final nail in 'N Sync's coffin? Britney asked Justin's boybandmate JC Chasez to open for her in the U.K.; and if touring with Britney ups JC's profile and gets his solo career on track the way Chasez' management is hoping it will, it could mean "Bye Bye Bye" once and for all to 'N Sync.

Lance Bass Supports Nationwide Skydive Event by Joining Hundreds in a Two-Mile High Stand Against Sexual Assault
Attorney General Ashcroft Lauds Event That Raises Funds to Help Victims
(3/29/04) PRNewswire

Music sensation Lance Bass from *NSYNC joins hundreds of people nationwide to participate in the April 24, 2004 Operation Freefall, a national skydiving event created to raise awareness about sexual assault and the impact it has on people's lives. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and SOAR (Speaking Out About Rape), organizers of the annual event, announced today that they have selected 37 drop zones to culminate the first annual National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Kellie Greene, SOAR founder and RAINN advisory board member says, "Some people take a stand for what they believe in ... Operation Freefall participants are willing to take a flying leap!"

Funds raised will help maintain and expand the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1.800.656.HOPE), operated by RAINN; will help to extend efforts to provide prevention and recovery information to millions of Americans; expand SOAR's programs to educate lawmakers, police officers, students and the media about sexual assault; and help continue efforts to clear the backlog of untested DNA evidence from an estimated 350,000 rape crime scenes.

Attorney General John Ashcroft, with whom Greene introduced the President's $1 billion "Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology Initiative" in 2003, lauds the event and Kellie's efforts. Ashcroft says, "Operation Freefall is a triumph of the spirit. It stands as a testament to the remarkable courage of Kellie Greene and rape survivors and their supporters throughout the country." Ashcroft continues, "President Bush and the Department of Justice are firmly committed to bringing justice to those who have suffered the pain of rape. By using DNA technology and tough enforcement to get rapists off our streets and out of our neighborhoods, we will spare untold others that anguish in the future."

Operation Freefall was created by Greene four years ago, who began skydiving each year on the anniversary of her rape to reclaim the day that had been taken from her. By reviving her own courageous spirit and turning what had been a dreaded memorial into an anticipated celebration, Kellie has recovered from her resulting development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the rape.

Studies show that PTSD is more prevalent than diabetes or asthma and that more than 50 percent of adults in the US will experience one major trauma in their lifetime, putting them at risk to develop PTSD. It's also estimated that 49 percent of rape survivors develop PTSD as a result of their traumatic experience.

Supporters can help raise funds in a variety of ways both on and off the ground.

1. Register to skydive at www.operationfreefall.com.
2. Make a pledge to support Greene, one of a number of celebrity
skydivers or a friend at www.operationfreefall.com.

‘Schizophrenic’ holds true to title
Former N’Syncer’s debut album makes him the ‘Prince’ of Gen-X.
(3/29/04) Elizabeth Gist Sagamore (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis)

If history is repeating itself and this is indeed a recycled generation, JC Chasez’s March debut Schizophrenic is living proof.

The former N’Sync member’s album, appropriately titled, combines musical stylings of The Police, Donna Summer, Bob Marley, Nine Inch Nails, the Eurythmics, and Prince with each song having its own distinct genre.

Ballads like “Build My World,” “Lose Myself” and “Dear Goodbye” exhibit Chasez’s N’Sync roots and his compelling voice. The sexually charged “All Day Long I Dream About Sex” and “Some Girls (Dance with Women)” are reminiscent of Smokey Robinson and Barry White’s seventies sex ballads and will no doubt be gracing club dance floors worldwide. Reggaeinspired “Mercy” takes on a feverish pop aspect that cannot be explained, only listened to.

Schizophrenic also reveals a collaboration among Chasez and a range of pop and dance producers, including Basement Jaxx, Robb Boldt and Riprock n’ Alex G, which may also explain the album’s impact of being all over the place musically.

Chasez didn’t feed off the success of former bandmate, Justin Timberlake, who emerged in the pop circuit with a solo album released in November 2002. Chasez didn’t enlist Timberlake’s producers the Neptunes and Timbaland to mirror his beats, and he also chose not to take the passenger seat, co-writing the album’s fifteen songs.

The difference in his ambition to take a chance on different sounds and styles is that, unlike fellow pop co-horts Pink and Kelly Clarkson, Chasez actually makes it work. While other critics have compared Timberlake to this generation’s Michael Jackson, Chasez is being hailed as a modern day Prince for successfully taking a sex-obsessed stance on funk, dance, pop, and soul.

* Tom Wood Pontiac GMC Added success is also attributed to the fact that this album has not been overly-hyped, but rather under-hyped, making it one of the best kept secrets in the music industry. Realistically, TRL is destined to staple several of the tracks on here and ruin the album for the rest of the unsuspecting musical public.

Janet and Justin Duet in the Works
(3/29/04) FOX News

It looks like Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake may have to face the music once more. That's because they've recorded some kind of duet for Quincy Jones' next album, according to my sources, a project that's said to include everything from bebop to hip-hop.

The album, which is still coming together and tentatively titled "MoPoFo," will feature remixes of some great Jones songs by the likes of Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent. But Janet and Justin are said to have been working on a duet before their "wardrobe malfunction" scandal during the Super Bowl. Janet recently received the Quincy Jones Award at the Soul Train Awards...

We are the 'who in the world?'
(3/29/04) Cary Darling Ft. Worth Star-Telegram

If you thought the era of multimillionaire music gods banding together to beg you to fork over five bucks for a good cause was gone, think again. After all, it's the 20th anniversary of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" the project by Bob Geldof -- er, Sir Bob Geldof -- that was the beachhead in the invasion of '80s do-gooder pop, and the music industry knows one thing: If you liked it before, you'll love it again.

This year we're supposed to see a hip-hop remake of Quincy Jones' "We Are the World", this time with Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake, among others, and the money going to fight HIV/AIDS...
