“The song I released wasn't even supposed to be a
single. I guess after it came out… they were like,
'You've got to do a record now, it's kind of a big
deal.’”

Las Vegas Mercury Review: JC at HOB
(4/29/04) James P. Reza Las Vegas Mercury

Consider this: Grown, masculine and--if my gaydar is spot-on--way-straight guy displays no hesitation in wrapping one arm around his galpal while displaying a J.C. Chasez action figure, proudly mint-in-box, above his head during Chasez's entire performance at the House of Blues. Two nights later at Seal, openly gay couple wrap their arms around each other, bawling like schoolgirls, during the British singer's "Waiting for You." All that Public Display of Honesty is thanks to the inclusive vibe at the House, favored for both its setup (great sound, hardly a bad spot in the place) and aggressive booking tactics that attract a variety of shows (and, obviously, a variety of patrons). It's too bad there isn't room for another HOB downtown, for this is just the kind of venue the area needs and could support.

Chasez, who with Justin Timberlake formed Top 40 sensation N'SYNC, makes pop, pure and unapologetic. He lifts influences--if not riffs themselves--from Lenny Kravitz, George Clinton and Prince (oh, wait, that was "Let's Go Crazy," an actual Prince song), not to mention a nod to trendy Middle Eastern rhythms on his rising club hit "Some Girls (Dance With Women)." Fans of JC--primarily quarter-dressed gals vying to be backstage ass and a cadre of N'SYNC stunt doubles--clearly have difficulty separating him from his boy band days, but Chasez seems to want nothing more than that very thing. Chasez's performance--live vocals, a well-choreographed stage show featuring blistering dancers and at least a semblance of spontaneity--far outshines that of fellow Mousketeer Britney Spears at a fifth the price...

Fox grinds to win
(4/29/04) Whistler Question

The inaugural McDonalds Rail Session turned into a screaming hot event as a record-breaking crowd watched Whistler’s Jesse Fox grind his way to first place in the men’s snowboard category.

As part of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, all eyes focused on the GLC patio as the world’s best skiers and snowboarders challenged the 30-foot rail slide. Later on in the evening, jaws dropped as pop sensation, Justin Timberlake made his second appearance of the night to present awards to the night’s best rail riders. He jammed with the Black Eyed Peas during an earlier DKNY Outdoor concert.

“Having Justin around blew people away because we have a lot of musical guests but no huge celebrities,” said Sarah Burke, women’s ski rail winner. “I like listening to his music in my car when I am feeling girly...”

The Awful Truth
(4/29/04) Ted Casablanca E!

...Perhaps boy-bander Lance Bass is feeling a little down that he isn't linked up with some Hell-Ay hottie like Paris or Cameron or Mischa or--well, you get the headline-grabbing idea. So, look what other kinda grabbin' the spacey wannabe astronaut does to make up for his lass loss:

Steppin' out to "support" bud JC Chasez at his House of Blues concert on the Sunset Strip, Lance strolled up to the ultra-exclusive Foundation Room with a youthful gal in tow. But holy legal woes! Lance's lovely was stopped by security 'cause she didn't look 21.

Lance-doll, according to present poppin' pupils, turned to the girl and grilled her: "You're 21, right?" No time to wait for an answer, though--drinks were needed pronto! L.B., according to horrified witnesses, grabbed the babe's more tender areas and bleated, "Honk, honk! Yep, you're 21!"

Lance then made friends with Sharon Osbourne, whipping out liquored breath to boot.

As fer the girl? She robotically giggled it off. Figures...

Justin on Lostprophets CD cover
(4/29/04) Steve Newton Straight.com

...The youthful sextet has hooked up with heavyweight American management company Q Prime Inc. and scored distribution through Sony Music, which recently issued its sophomore disc, Start Something.

...Lostprophets also got a helping hand from Justin Timberlake, though not in a musical way. He's the hooded, anonymous figure pictured on the CD's cover, standing on a barren overpass in the midst of L.A.'s concrete jungle. "Our bassist knows him," Watkins explains. "It's funny, because we tell people [that it's Justin Timberlake] and nobody believes us. They go, 'Oh... yeah.' But I don't really care whether people believe it or not..."

Justin joins BEP on stage in Vancouver
(4/29/04) Martin Turenne Straight.com

At Richard's on Richards on Friday, April 23

...If the Peas' energy started to flag noticeably during the concert's second half, the pace picked up again at night's end, upped by the appearance of Justin Timberlake, who bounded on-stage to sing the hook to "Where Is The Love?" From then on, BEP seemed pleased to let JT steal the show, as the novice actor busted a serviceable beatbox routine and performed his own "Señorita", complete with raucous call-and-response from the starstruck audience. As if the pop singer's cameo wasn't enough, the band then called up actor Wesley Snipes, who preened and boogied with unerring panache, his silky movements matched in turn by Timberlake and the Peas. While the stars--currently in town shooting the movie Edison--guffawed and slapped each other's backs, we audience members clapped feverishly on cue, dutiful extras each and every one.
