“The song I released wasn't even supposed to be a
single. I guess after it came out… they were like,
'You've got to do a record now, it's kind of a big
deal.’”

Fans bring Justin to Brisbane
(5/19/04) (thanks Sharna!)

As you may know, Justin Timberlake is coming to Australia and he was originally just visiting Melbourne and Sydney. However a radio station in Brisbane called B105 contacted his promoter and found out that if they could get like 20,000 signatures in approximately a week, Justin would come and do a show in Brisbane as well.

So they put up an online petition which ended yesterday. I found out today that Justin will be doing a show here in Brisbane on the 19th of June. Tickets go on sale first thing Monday.

Q&A With JC Chasez
(5/19/04) Channel 4 UK (thanks starenite!)

Thanks to crafy studio work and an ear for something different, JC Chasez has delivered one of our fave albs of the year, Schizophrenic.

His solo effort away from *NSYNC is a mash-up of sounds from dance, soul, rock and pop - and is nothing like his boyband background.

JC's next single All Day Long I Dream About Sex is a belter. Listen out for it. Meantime, here's his Quick Qs...

Who's your best friend and why?
"I have a lot of best friends. My tour manager, Carlos, we understand each other. And of course all the guys in *NSYNC I consider my best friends. Everybody that worked on my record, like the producers, I consider my best friends - Rob Boldt, Alex Greggs, Brad Daymond - that's why we cut the record together. I wanted to make a record with my friends and have a good time."

Worst lie you've ever told?
"Any lie is bad enough. I'm not too bad. If it's a bad one I always get caught out 'cos bad stuff you can't lie about. There's too many people that know!"

Who washes your socks?
"I do my laundry except for the dry cleaning."

What confuses you about women?
"Everything! (takes a deep breath) 'cos you're very emotional people. What confuses me is why you don't understand me, because I'm right and you should know what I'm going through. And that's how I feel about it."

What are you scared of?
"Needles, I hate them!"

Final thought before you went to sleep last night?
"Why isn't the internet working in the hotel? It was driving me nuts. I haven't checked my email in three days. My mom's going to kill me!"

Biggest misconception about you?
"People tend to think I'm overly serious. I'm serious when the time needs to be but I can have fun too."

When did you last visit the dentist?
"Two weeks ago, right before the video shoot for All Day Long. We were filming it against a white wall, so I thought, 'I gotta get my teeth cleaned!' "

What's your favourite animal?
"If I picked one my sister would kill me - she's studying animals. I'm a big dog lover - man's best friend. I think that holds true with me."

What kind of person are you at parties?
"A little bit of everything. I'm pretty quiet unless I get around close friends then I'm a yapper. Some people have to go from table to table. Once I get my spot laid out, I chill. Then if I want to talk to somebody I'll get up now and then. I love laughing so when I'm out and about I love hearing jokes."

Best place you went on hols as a kid?
"We used to do car trips that would be three weeks long. It was great. My parents had like a hippy mentality. We would take a summer vacation and they'd go, 'Which way, left or right'. And we'd go 'left'. It was really cool. Then they'd say 'north or south'. And we'd go, 'south'. We drove across the country for about four summers in a row. Amazing memories."

Retro return unwelcome
(5/19/04) J. Bo Calgary Sun

From legwarmers to Chip and Pepper and big hair, it seems like everything '80s is cool again. I can see how the decade may seem fashionable to those who didn't suffer the full extent of it the first time around, but for the rest of us over a certain age it just seems like really bad deja-vu.

It's not just retro-fashion that's popping back up in stores, '80s toys are making a comeback too. I've seen Care Bears in the toy section of my local Wal-mart and now toy makers are revisiting the Garbage Pail Kids.

Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera are letting the people who make the gross-out toys animate their images for the company's collector's cards. JT becomes Justin Timberleg and the dirrrty one becomes Christina Ugliera on the relaunched cards...

The Stones release 'SARS-stock' on DVD
(5/19/04) BRUCE CAMPION-SMITH Toronto Star

The Rolling Stones, the headline act at last summer's SARS benefit concert, are performing an encore — this time on DVD.

The Stones have picked Toronto to launch their DVD featuring footage of the day-long concert, says Liberal MP Dennis Mills (Toronto-Danforth), a key organizer of the July 30 event.

Some of the proceeds of the DVD will go to health care and hospitality workers hurt by the SARS crisis, as well as other charities.

The Stones won't be on hand for the release tomorrow afternoon at the Harbour Castle Westin. But Mills says Stones lead singer Mick Jagger will deliver a video message to mark its official kickoff.

"It's going to be a DVD of highlights of all the artists," Mills said yesterday. "It's going to be a true representation of the day."

In addition to the Stones, the video will show other big acts that performed that day, such as AC/DC, Rush, Justin Timberlake and the Guess Who.

The day-long concert, which was designed to boost the city's sagging economy in the wake of the deaths caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome, attracted close to 500,000 spectators at Downsview Park. The outbreak killed 44 people in the GTA.

Mills is betting the DVD will give the city a boost as well. It will feature a vignette of Canadian tourism that was produced by Norman Jewison and originally shown at the concert.

Mills said among the charities that will benefit from the DVD sales include L'Arche, an international community of homes for people with disabilities which was founded by Canadian Jean Vanier, son of former Governor-General Georges Vanier.

Another beneficiary will be Right to Play, a charity that promotes sport among refugee children, children living in poverty, former child combatants and children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

It counts Silken Laumann among its athlete ambassadors.

Shrek 2 all too much for Antonio
(5/19/04) Radio 1 UK

A 'Shrek 2' screening at the Cannes Film Festival was an emotional affair for one of its cast.

Antonio Banderas, who plays ogre killer Puss in Boots in the film, was apparently so moved when he was watching it at the festival that he ended up crying and holding hands with Justin Timberlake.

He says the romantic scene at the end of the film got to him, and then he looked at JT and he was sobbing too, so they held hands for a while while Cameron looked on...
