JC Chasez
Schizophrenic
3 out of 5 stars
How sad it is that Justin Timberlake had amazing success with his
solo effort in 2002/03, yet his N’SYNC band mate JC Chasez
will hardly rank as a footnote in the history of the biggest boy
band of the 90’s.
What makes this all the sadder is that Chasez tried very hard not
to follow in Timberlake's Michael Jackson tainted footsteps and
has make a very solid product in Schizophrenic. Unfortunately, no
one will hear it as the CD has hardly been selling since its February
release.
Without a hint of his former (?) band on Schizophrenic,
the CD is full of dance and party tunes that would have set the
current lackluster state of radio on fire, had Chasez gotten half
the support that Justin got from his label.
He enters some unexpected territory on the “Some Girls (Dance
With Women),"does an homage to Sean Paul and the dancehall
reggae on "Mercy", gets as danceable as possible without
getting hokey with "She Got Me", and confesses a sin we
already knew on "All Day Long I Dream About Sex," seemingly
a take off on the old ADIDAS joke.
Bacon & Eggs on Bass' Menu
Lance Bass and partners to re-launch their A Happy Place production
shingle under new moniker.

The production partnership of Lance Bass, Wendy Thorlakson and
Joe Anderson is no longer A Happy Place. It's being re-launched
as Bacon & Eggs Llc. and will produce diverse film and television
projects.
Already, the renamed company has set up two film projects: When
the Dead Whisper, a horror pic at Gold Circle Films, and Lovewrecked,
a teen comedy at Media 8 Entertainment.
When the Dead Whisper is about angel assassins and a town with
a terrible secret. Bacon & Eggs will produce along with Gold
Circle president Paul Brooks. The company's Norm Waitt and Scott
Niemeyer will serve as executive producers.
Lovewrecked, written by Stephen Langford, is about a girl who gets
stranded on a deserted island with the rock star of her dreams.
But when she finds out it's really the not-so-deserted Kauai --
with a huge resort on the other side of the island -- she doesn't
tell the rock star. The project is being fast tracked, with production
to begin in June in the Caribbean.
According to the principals, the new name marks a broadening of
interests in terms of subject matter. Before they were focused almost
exclusively on family movies, but under the new Bacon & Eggs
banner, they will develop film projects in a variety of genres,
as well as television ventures.

'Fish Tales and Swan Songs'

The 13th annual Orlando International Fringe Festival continues
today at venues throughout downtown Orlando and Loch Haven Park.
Featuring more than 70 groups or performers presenting hundreds
of shows, the theater festival runs through Sunday…
...(Becky Fisher and Joe Swanberg) have peered into myths and mysteries
with their latest show, which plays off old stories and songs about
fish and fowl. There's the tale of the fisherman and his wife (with
Swanberg in a lovely satin evening skirt); there's the story of
Leda and the swan; there's a bit of Christianity, with Justin Timberlake
standing in for Jesus (don't ask)…
Boston Globe KISS Concert review

…(Maroon 5) was introduced by the Backstreet Boys, who made
a surprise appearance and sang an a cappella version of "Moving
On," a song from their upcoming album. They were warmly greeted,
but it was a long way from the reception they would have received
five years ago. The same could be said of JC Chasez who, unlike
his fellow 'N Sync member Justin Timberlake, has yet to achieve
breakthrough solo success. He performed four songs, three from his
solo debut, "Schizophrenic," and though he works hard
singing and dancing, Chasez can't overcome such dull, forgettable
songs as "Some Girls (Dance With Women)" and "All
Day Long I Dream About Sex."
Chasez's 20-minute performance was delayed because stage hands had
to mop up after reggae artist Sean Paul. Someone should have told
the reigning dancehall king that spraying water on crowds shivering
under blankets probably wasn't a great idea...
In praise of celebrities who annoy us most
(5/24/04) David Grimes Sarasota
Herald-Tribune
With so many celebrities out there (11,357 at last count), it's
hard to keep track.
Do I like Justin Timberlake or don't I? Who, exactly, is Fantasia
Barrino? Is it really fair to call Alf a celebrity?
Fortunately for America's overburdened idolaters, there is a Web
site that tells us which celebrities are worthy of our slavish attention
and which are not. Created by Bruce Goldman and friends, www.amiannoying.com
ranks celebrities on the basis of their annoyingness.
For example, Justin Timberlake, vocalist for 'N Sync and notorious
Super Bowl wardrobe malfunctioner, was ranked the eighth most annoying
person of 2004, somewhat less annoying than Carrot Top (No. 4) but
more annoying than Martha Stewart (No. 14).
According to the editors, some of Timberlake's annoyingness stems
from the fact that he once replaced Ronald McDonald as McDonald's
spokesman. On the other hand, the fact that he ripped off Janet
Jackson's bodice on international TV actually worked in his favor.
There are a lot of people on the "most annoying" list
that you might not think of as celebrities. For example, though
it is rumored that Timberlake's mawkish melodies can cause cancer
in laboratory rats, I would not lump him with Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi,
the terrorist who decapitated Nicholas Berg…
Schizophrenic launches in Brazil
(5/23/04) Folha
Online Brazil (thanks charlidos and also to interlock for translating!)
After Justin Timberlake, its now the turn of another member of
the American boy band NSYNC to embark on a solo career. But differently
then the ex boyfriend of Britney Spears, JC Chasez, 28, completely
left the styles of hip hop and rhythm and blues behind on the disc
Schizophrenic for more electronic sounds created by the producer
BT and the duo Basement Jaxx, and the lyrics speak of sex.
Completely different then the synchronization that was suggested
by the name of his former band. (NSYNC can be translated as in synchronization)
In an exclusive interview with Folhateen, by telephone from inside
the tour bus traveling the US, JC speaks of his solo career, Madonna
and Britney, Michael Jackson, and of course sex.
Folhateen - Instead of working with producers like Timbaland and
Neptunes you preferred to use producers of electronica, like BT
and the duo Basement Jaxx. Why?
JC- BT is a long time friend. At first we recorded just for fun
and it ended up cool. I have an open mind, I look to not do what
everyone is doing. Everyone had thought I would work with Timbaland
and the Neptunes like the whole world does.
Folhateen- How did you get in contact with Basement Jaxx?
JC- Though BT. I was in London with nothing to do and I rang them
to see if they knew of any good ballads. They said that they couldn’t
go out because they were in the studio, so I went there. There,
they asked me to show them some things that I was working on. Afterwards
they showed me what they were doing. Then they asked me to do the
vocal and 'Plug it in ' was born. After we finished I proposed.
'Why not make a trade?' We finished making "Shake it".
Folhateen - Many lyrics on Schizophrenic speak about sex. Are you
always dreaming about this like you sing on 'All Day Long I Dream
About Sex'?
JC- (laughs) I am a man, I think about it the same amount of times
any other man does. But music is the most important thing.
Folhateen- You sing that two girls dancing together leaves men
excited. Are you excited by this?
JC- of course! In truth it depends. I don’t like when its
very exaggerated and done only to provoke.
Folhateen- About that kiss of Madonna and Britney?
JC- that was very strange for me. I have known Britney Spears since
she was 12. That was very odd really.
Folhateen- NSYNC has already appeared with Michael Jackson. What
do you think of the accusation of child molestation against him?
JC- I am going to be honest. We aren't friends, only have worked
together. He was always a really great person with me, but i don't
know him well enough to judge the details of his private life.
