“The song I released wasn't even supposed to be a
single. I guess after it came out… they were like,
'You've got to do a record now, it's kind of a big
deal.’”

(7/15/04) Cindy Adams New York Post

...THE Democratic Con vention later this month in Boston. Guess who's giving a party? Guess. Just guess. Give up? That bastion of political know-how, that international savant, that well-known Democratic think-tank Justin Timberlake. I'll repeat that because nobody's going to believe this. Justin Timberlake. He comes from Tennessee. He will thus host a happening for the Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. At least that's what I think the guy's name is — and if it isn't, so what...

JC to sing on new charity single
(7/15/04) USA TODAY (thanks Eva!)

Kenneth "Babyface" Edomonds, Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, JC Chasez, the Backstreet Boys, Brandy, Monica, Chingy, Russell Simmons, Jamie Foxx and Minnie Driver are among the pop stars and other celebs who will appear on a politically charged new version of the '60's R&B classic Wake up Everybody, produced by Edmonds. "We're trying to push people to vote" in the upcoming election says Edmonds, who is holding sessions in New York and Los Angeles this week. "It's not a partisan thing. I'm just saying, "Get involved in the process.'" Proceeds from the song, due in August, will benefit America Coming Together, which is creating a voter contact program.

NSYNC to meet about next album
(7/15/04) Jo Piazza and Chris Rovzar New York Daily News

The members of 'N Sync may have been out of sync since they last performed together, at the 2003 Grammys, but a charity event next weekend may be the first step toward a reunion. The group will sing on July 25 in Miami to benefit its Challenge for the Children Foundation. Afterward, the five will be "having a meeting to discuss when we are going to start writing" for a new album, band member Joey Fatone told us.

Justin stalls *NSync's greatest hits
(7/15/04) Ireland Online

Singing superstar Justin Timberlake's reluctance to return to *NSync has delayed the release of their greatest hits album.

The Like I Love You singer is needed to record vocals for three new tracks which will feature on the Girlfriend group's new CD, but has yet to agree to return to the studio.

While bandmates JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick are ready to reform, even top executives at Jive Records have failed to convince Justin to join them.

A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "There's meant to be a greatest hits coming out in November and a possible Christmas TV special, but it's all now up in the air.

"Justin's had so much success that he doesn't need to get back with the band.

"He's also very busy and finding the time to do stuff with the band is hard, but if he really wanted to make it work, he could."

We Hear That the Fan Club Is Pretty Big Actually
(7/15/04) CAMPBELL ROBERTSON New York Times

It was picture time at the party after Monday night's performance of "Rent," and two of the newest cast members - MELANIE BROWN (a k a SCARY SPICE) and JAI RODRIGUEZ - lined up along with JOEY FATONE, who is starring in "Little Shop of Horrors" during time off from 'N Sync.

If this photo were a painting by one of the Great Masters it might be called "Allegory of the Popular Fivesome": there was Mr. Rodriguez, from a sort of boy band in the full blossom of popularity, Mr. Fatone from the boy band in middle age, and Ms. Brown from the girl band that is no longer.

But, as Ms. Brown reminded us when we spoke with her, we are not here to talk about the past.

The party was at Therapy in Midtown, and all five "Queer Eye" guys were there, so, consequently, a mob of "Queer Eye" fans at the theater and at the club.

CARSON KRESSLEY, in a white jacket and jeans, was wandering the party like, well a roving eye - upstairs, downstairs, outside, inside. FRENCHIE DAVIS, also in the musical, told us that her fellow "American Idol" alums, CLAY AIKEN and RUBEN STUDDARD, had already seen her.

The celebration was for Ms. Brown, who has been in the musical since April, and for Mr. Rodriguez, who's in it for a few weeks. Nothing new for him: he's played the role of ANGEL on and off since he was 17.

"I just feel like I've grown into it though," said Mr. Rodiguez as he stood in a tornado of well-wishers. He was talking to us but his eyes were darting around the room haphazardly. A lot of friends here, we asked.

"My mom, my aunt, my cousins. . ."

"My uncle, my choreographer for the 'Queer Eye' video, my choreographer for the tour I just finished of original music."

And the smiling, middle-aged man over there?

"My ear, nose and throat" guy.

At one point, we caught Mr. Kressley during one of his peregrinations, and asked him what he thought of the SPICE GIRLS.

"I was a Spice Girls fan in the 90's," he said, "and now I'm a Spice Girl husband fan in the new millennium."

"I'm so all about DAVID BECKHAM. He is so hot!"
