“The song I released wasn't even supposed to be a single. I guess after it came out… they were like,
'You've got to do a record now, it's kind of a big deal.’”

Ask Joey Fatone
(7/22/04) Broadway.com

It's not everyday that you get to ask a pop star anything you want, so here's your opportunity! Joey Fatone, who successfully made the leap from boy band to Broadway when he made his debut in Rent, is now starring as lovable nerd Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. The native New Yorker has a bunch of credits to his name, from starring in My Big Fat Greek Wedding on the big screen to selling more than 22 million records worldwide with *NSYNC. Does Fatone have a green thumb like his stage alter ego? Does he still hang with the *NSYNC gang? Does he sing show tunes in the shower? Ask him!

Justin Suing Mad over Sex Story
(7/22/04) Charlie Amter E!

Justin Timberlake is still in love with Cameron Diaz, and he's willing to go to court to prove it.

Timberlake is demanding an apology from London's News of the World after the tabloid published a report from a model who claims she and Timberlake had a sexual liaison overseas while Diaz was in Los Angeles.

Timberlake's lawyer, Marty Singer, tells Celebrity Justice he is demanding a retraction from the Rupert Murdoch-owned paper. If the tabloid refuses, the "Rock Your Body" singer is prepared to sue, Singer says.

Call to Singer late Wednesday were not immediately returned.

For now, Diaz, currently embroiled in her very own sex scandal, is standing by her man. "We are solid and I love him," Diaz tells Us Weekly in response to the increasing number of stories alleging the couple's break-up.

The magazine's news editor, Marc Malkin, tells Celebrity Justice that Diaz took a shot at the British model, Lucy Clarkson, who went public with her alleged sex romp at London's Landmark hotel via her tabloid confession. Diaz opined that the model "just wanted publicity" from the affair.

The published account of said affair, appearing in Sunday's News of the World in an article titled "Trousersnake Did Dirty on Diaz," was racy indeed--including the 22-year-old Clarkson's assertion that Timberlake, 23, was "obsessed with my boobs."

"I was impressed," Clarkson is quoted in the tab. "He's bigger than average and I was overwhelmed. But I didn't really like kissing him because his lips were too small."

Clarkson also called Diaz "a bit of a nutter" in the article.

This isn't the first time Timberlake and Diaz have been dogged by breakup rumors. Diaz, 31, was reportedly overheard at the Cannes film festival saying how she was afraid she wasn't being taken seriously in Hollywood because of her involvement with the nearly decade-younger Timberlake.

Meanwhile, Diaz's lawyers are on full alert. On Wednesday, a Los Angeles judge ruled that jury selection will begin next week in Diaz's legal battle with the photographer who shot the now infamous S&M video of the actress duing a photo shoot back when she was a 19-year-old nobody.

The decisive moment
(7/22/04) Tom Stoddart The News Statesman UK

An open-air exhibition of photographs on London's South Bank is attracting more than 2,000 visitors a day, from tourists to City suits. For Tom Stoddart, the man whose work they are flocking to see, it is testimony to the abiding power of the still image.

When I came back from working in the Sudan, during the last famine, I went to LA and shot a porn set. I was standing in front of 16 people shagging on stage, including a dwarf dressed as a leprechaun. I thought I just had to get out of there as fast as possible and back to doing what I enjoy.

And what I enjoy is there, for all to see, in the "iWitness" exhibition. Mounted to mark the 40th anniversary of the Disasters Emergency Committee, which launches and co-ordinates the UK's national appeals in response to crises overseas, the exhibition covers 15 years of my working life with the committee, from floods in Mozambique to mass starvation in Sudan. It is being held outdoors at a development by the architect Norman Foster, just over the river from one of the richest places on earth, the City of London.

... Do I ever do other things than take photos of people suffering disasters? When I came back from the Iraq war, I was sent off to do Justin Timberlake. I had no idea who he was. In fact, I thought it was a corporate job for Timberland shoes. Anyway, I ended up as his personal photographer for a while. I have to say it was a nice way of refreshing my mind - and no, I didn't meet Britney Spears! But honestly, I would much rather be with the people working on humanitarian stories. They show a lot more will to live, and a great deal more humanity to each other, than corporate people do.

All the same, Justin is a very nice guy, and being surrounded by 20,000 screaming women each night is no bad thing.

Welcome to the Vengeance Scale
(7/21/04) Bill Simmons ESPN (thanks Eva!)

...the Vengeance Scale, from 0.0 (least vengeful) to 10.0 (most vengeful).

...8.0 -- Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River" video.

(Note: The most underrated example of vengeance on this list. After Britney cheated on him, not only did he dump her, he put out a best-selling album fueled by a song about their breakup in which he basically destroys her with the lyrics. Just an unbelievable piece of work. It's devastating. I can't even imagine what she did when she first heard it. And if that wasn't enough, he made a well-received video about the song, starring a Britney look-alike. And if THAT wasn't enough, he immediately started going out with Cameron Diaz. By the time he was done, Britney's career was in the tank -- she was chain-smoking and hanging out with backup dancers and white trash guys from her hometown. Now that, my friends, is vengeance. Bravo, Justin. Bravo...)
