The edge: Stars sing melodies for deep-sea cartoon

Every great ’toon needs a few tasty tunes to set the
mood. "Shark Tale," the latest from DreamWorks,
has hooked some of the hottest names in the music biz for
its soundtrack, due Sept. 28.
To go along with the computer-animated comedy about Oscar,
a little fish in a bustling undersea metropolis who gets tangled
up with the Mob, music supervisor Darren Higman lined up such
chart-toppers as Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott (who
put a fresh shine on ’70s hit "Car Wash"),
Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley (with a reggae/hip-hop version
of "Three Little Birds") and Mary J. Blige (updating
Cheryl Lynn’s "Got to Be Real").
Both Justin Timberlake and Will Smith (the voice of Oscar)
are cooking up fresh numbers with super producer Timbaland.
And Fantasia, the newest American Idol, will also contribute
a song.
"The film takes place in a city not unlike New York,
and it made sense to use urban music," Higman says of
"Shark Tale," coming out Oct. 1. "A lot of
(these artists) usually have parental advisory stickers on
their records, so this might expose them to a whole new audience."
Celebs spark T spree

It was only a brief scene on one reality television show,
but oh what it seemed to be.
When Jessica Simpson wore a Clarendon T-shirt to her Lasik
eye surgery appointment recently on MTV's “Newlyweds,”
it set off a stampede of sorts for the shirt brand. Retailers
quickly sold out.
According to trend tracker Jane Rinzler Buckingham, who writes
a newsletter on trends, celebrities Kelly Osbourne, Nicky
Hilton, Nicole Richie andJustin Timberlake are also new fans.
The shirts are touted for their flattering fit and lively
graphics. Designer Daniel Payne, formerly with Tommy Hilfiger
and Issey Miyake, and business partner Jonathan Cheban, say
designs are inspired by pop culture, politics and literature.
The shirts are priced at about $48 at retailers such as Fred
Segal Conveyor in Santa Monica and C. Ronson in New York City.
But at least one shirt was already on eBay, the online auction
site, last week at $150.
Brad takes top spot

Brad Pitt has been voted the world's sexiest man - with David
Beckham relegated to fourth place.
Female fans certainly approved when the Hollywood hunk donned
a leather skirt in Greek epic Troy.
He shot from number three to number one in Company magazine`s
annual 100 Sexiest Men poll, with his Troy co-star Orlando
Bloom a close second.
But the nation seems to have fallen out of love with Becks
- he was beaten into fourth spot by EastEnders heart-throb
Nigel Harman.
Harman rocketed up 73 places to number three thanks to his
smouldering turn as Dennis Rickman in the BBC soap.
"I`m absolutely thrilled to win the bronze medal amongst
such esteemed company," the actor said.
Two years ago, Beckham topped the Company poll and last year
he was only kept off the number one spot by Justin Timberlake.
But the Rebecca Loos scandal and his penalty miss in Portugal
appear to have dented his sex appeal.
Pop superstar Timberlake is down to fifth this year, followed
by Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Robbie Williams.
Jude Law is at number nine with Duncan James from Blue at
ten.
Comeback king Peter Andre is the highest new entry at number
19 while the biggest climber is Donnie Darko star Jake Gyllenhaal,
up from 98 to 21.
Other climbers include Arsenal player and Calvin Klein model
Freddie Ljungberg, up 60 places to number 26.
Will Young and Demi Moore`s toyboy Ashton Kutcher are each
up 66 places - Young to number 14 and Kutcher to number 17.
New entries include singer Lemar, Troy star Eric Bana and
ER hunk Goran Visnjic.
But there is bad news for Coldplay`s Chris Martin, Cold Feet
star James Nesbitt and Charlie Simpson from Busted - all have
dropped out of the 100 altogether.
Company readers also voted for the world`s unsexiest men.
Michael Jackson topped the list yet again, followed by Chris
Evans, Peter Andre and Simon Cowell.
David Beckham was in eighth place.

East Ramapo band takes pride in big screen debut

NEW CITY — Fifteen-year-old Michael Rose never thought
he'd see himself on the silver screen.
But there he was yesterday, waiting outside the Clearview
New City Cinemas while fellow East Ramapo Marching Band members
chatted excitedly and took photographs.
Rose, a tenor saxophone player who will be a sophomore at
Spring Valley High School, and his bandmates were there to
see the 6:50 p.m. showing of "The Manchurian Candidate,"
in which they perform...
The movie is not the band's first brush with fame. It routinely
wins or places highly in local and national marching competitions
and in June 2003 played before 50,000 people at Giants Stadium
as part of the backup band for 'N Sync member JC Chasez. That
was followed by an appearance on "Good Day New York"
and the usual round of local football games and other shows...
