“The song I released wasn't even supposed to be a
single. I guess after it came out… they were like,
'You've got to do a record now, it's kind of a big
deal.’”

Transcript: JC on HOT FM 103.1
(8/25/04) (thanks Eva and to Jenifa for transcribing!)

Have to say straight off the bat, this is not the perfect transcript. During the entire interview there was plenty of laughter from all 3. At some points quiet comments were made that I could not pick up, but they made no difference to what was being talked about. So here is my transcript to the best I could get it.

August 23rd 2004, on HOT FM 103.1 Townsville, on program Hot 30 with Age.

Missed first couple of comments, due to taping.

Age: Did I say that right?

JC: You did actually.

Age: Good stuff. It's not Chachez and Chatezzzzzzzzz.

JC: Yeah you know people even say Chavez and there's no v, so.

Jen: [laughing] Just adding a letter.

JC: You know, they're just adding it for flavour.

Age: Now what's happened man, you've had uh hurricanes recently in the US.

JC: Yeah I did actually and I was right in the middle of it.

Jen: We heard you had a pretty close call. A tree almost fell through your bedroom window. Is that true?

JC: It did fall through my bedroom window.

Jen: Oh my god, were you scared?

JC: A tree, a tree landed on my house.

Age: [laughing]

Jen: Oh my goodness.

Age: Serious?

JC: Yeah man, uh it was, I mean, you know, I don't know what it was in kilograms or whatever, but it was about 100000 pounds.

Jen: [gasps] God, oh my god. So what did you do?

JC: It crushed the back of my house.

Age: So what happens?

JC: Good fun, good fun.

Age: So what's going to happen now to your house, are you going to get it renovated as we speak or what?

JC: [laughs] Well, right now it's covered in plastic, uh at least that side of it, just because uh you know I'm, I definitely was not the only house that pretty much had stuff thrown on it, or through it or you know um it, it just really, it just spewed up the areas pretty good the whole area um

Age: Well, words like beat up, thrown on and plastic of course lead us to our next topic all day long I dream about sex

Jen: [laughing]

JC: Yeah, there you go perfectly [laughing]

Age: What's going on over there dude, what's happening now, where did that song come from?

JC: Um I don't know [dragged out slightly]. Um no, no, you know what, I just wanted to make a song that was just obnoxious and fun, um I wanted to , I hadn't heard a song in a long time that really just spit it out and didn't, I don't know, I just feel like everything is so safe right now and people don't just blurt out and just have fun on the fly and that's what that song was when I did it. It was just a , it was just something that was loud and fun and I didn't think twice about it and that's why I love the result.

Age: Well yes, sex is loud and fun, it can be very much so [both Jen and JC laughing in background at this comment from Age] do you, do you, have you ever been to a Playboy party?

JC: Uh, I've been to quite a few actually.

Age: Is that where the inspiration for the song came from? Please tell me yes, please tell me yes.

JC: No no no, um though they're cool, don't get me wrong, Playboy parties are cool but like I said my mine inspiration was just to, just to, get, just wanted to, I had good times on the brain and that was it.

Age: Next question is : can I get an invite to a Playboy party?

Jen: [laughs at Age]

JC: Um you know what, if you beg and grovel uh Hef you know, ah you never know, he's actually a pretty nice guy so.

Age: Alright we'll never know.

Jen: Now the album's called Schizophrenic, um did that have something to do with the album personality, writing this All Day Long I Dream About Sex song, was it you writing it or…

JC: Yeah, I mean it was me writing that song. All the stuff is, is very, there's a piece of me in every one of these songs you know, whether it was me just doing a song as a joke or me being serious, ah but I think Schizophrenic fits the title just because it's a whole 'nother side of my personality that people haven't seen period, because they've always seen me in the light of being in a group you know and they've always expected you know this certain element from a group um that when I went out to do my own record it's, it, it is it's a whole 'nother beast that people haven't seen um because there's no compromises involved in there so though you know I'm not having to account for you know four other opinions on top of mine. Um, it was just a record that was start to finish um all me and people have never seen that before um so I felt like it was just a whole different personality for people to see.

Age: All right, well stick around with us, we'll talk more about sex ok?

JC: Fantastic.

***

Age: JC Chasez joining us. He's got a new single out All Day Long I Dream About Sex. Where's the worst/ best place you've done it?

JC: Very nice. Um hmmmm am I really going to get into this or…….

Age: We don't wanna know. Hey um after parties, you've been to many um and of course Nsync. Are they together, have they broken up, what's the go?

JC: Ah well, we're definitely together, we're just not working on a record currently that's all, um people are making a big deal uh out of nothing really. Um we're just all really happy with what we're doing right now. We're experimenting, we're trying different things, and we're enjoying ourselves. Um we've been friends forever, we are life long friends um and that is essentially what makes us Nsync, um we're just, well get back together you know um to work on a record eventually but just not right now.

Jen: Ok so the reports that we've heard from ah Justin Timberlake saying that he's not interested in recording with you guys …

JC: First of all, it didn't come from Justin, it came from you know quote unquote people in his camp or whatever.

Jen: Oh right ok.

Age: Yeah.

JC: You know, you know how it goes.

Age: It came from Hugh Heffner, didn't it?

Jen: [laughing]

JC: Yeah exactly so.

Jen: So there's no real truth to that at all.

JC: Yeah.

Jen: Yeah cool.

JC: Yeah, the truth of the matter is, yes we're not working on a current album but as far as there not being any more Nsync is wrong.

Jen: Ok

Age: Yeah because I was scared I'd never hear this song again. You know this whole like [played opening of Bye Bye Bye] yeah yeah, because I'm like because I wanna be the 6th member of Nsync and then go here we go here we go, [age sings along then does echo of bye bye bye, very horrible to listen to] that's all I know of the song.

JC: You can be the echo, we can do everything and you can just do the echoes.

Age: Bye bye bye bye bye

JC: It'll work you know I have a good feeling about it, I have a good feeling.

Age: I got the dance moves down pat, you know I've got that new dance move, you can probably use it in your new video clip or whatever, but ah it's called the washing machine, you just, you throw all the clothes in, like with me dancing around and I wash the clothes in the water.

JC: Okay

Age: It's crazy man

JC: Is it identical to like the pee pee dance where you have to go really bad and you can't find a bathroom?

[Age & Jen both laughing with JC joining in]

Age: Yeah you getting there, very close.

Jen: A bit more motion in the arm though.

Age: Hey have you been watching the Olympics?

JC: Hey you know what, I think that they put crack in the television, because I'm absolutely addicted to this stuff. I found myself watching ping pong today for hours.

Age: I know, do you know those guys train, they actually run, they actually train and do weights.

JC: Oh man, they're no joke dude, I mean I will say this though at first I was like ping pong really? There's and then 2 minutes later I'm like that guy's like 5 feet off the table man, look at.. not out come on [yells this last bit]

Age: Ok stick around we'll talk more about your new single and your new album

JC: cool

***

Age: On the hot 30 with Age, joining us is JC Chasez, stick around, got a new album Schizophrenic, where did the name Schizophrenic come from?

JC: Um it just came from my idea that it is just an alternate personality for people who have seen me in the past to now. This is the first time I've released my own record and it's really the first time I've ever um written a record without compromise and without you know 4 other opinions on it so um it's gonna appear different and it's gonna come across different and so that's why I decided to call the record Schizophrenic.

Age: What's the hardest thing about being a solo artist?

JC: Um I think …

Age: From a group perspective, I mean because you've come from Nsync so this would be a whole different sort of thing for you everything would be new [JC breaks in over age here, so rest of statement unclear]

JC: You know what though, I think it's the same no matter what I think, you know it's the schedule. You know, making the record, you know it's gruelling because you're hard on yourself, you wanna make the best song, but I think that once it's, once you, once you start travelling it's just you know, it's just getting from A to B, once you're doing your gig you're totally happy, but it's you know, getting from A to B, it's getting in the car, getting in the plane, getting here, packing, unpacking you know that's the strenuous part uh uh I think that any entertainer has to endure.

Age: Do you have a personal life?

JC: Pardon me?

Age: Do you have a personal life?

JC: Uh a personal what?

Age: A life, a personal life?

JC: Um uh yes and no. I mean you know at times it does get hectic to the point where it's like I work and sleep, but um I'll always make time when it comes to being in a city where my friends are there, I will always make time uh for friends and things like that and family. Always.

Jen: Is it, is it hard to go out and become a solo artist? Obviously coming off the back of the success that NSYNC had as a group, um like the prospect of failing or not succeeding on your own must sort of stay in your mind a little.

JC: You know what though? A lot of people have said that to me and um I've already, I feel like I've succeeded already um just because I made the record that I've always wanted to make and I think you know that's a success in itself you know, to work in this business and to actually do what you want to do when there is so many people that want a piece of whatever you're doing and want to control whatever you're doing um at this level in the game 'cause you know if they make one suggestion they can say it was their idea and so on and so forth and then they can get patted on the back and that's just you know the business is just that way right now, and um I've succeeded in keeping my product pure and that was successful, that was success for me, um

Age: Yeah well I mean well you know I've gotta be the echo for NSYNC now so I mean there, you know (mumbles on about wanting a piece of the pie kind of thing)

[All three laugh]

JC: Yeah

Age: Well mate, it's been great to talk to you ah JC Chasez.

JC: Yeah man.

Age: The song title, every time I hear it man, All Day Long I Dream About Sex, and I go dude I'm not getting any

[laughter]

JC: Yeah yeah you know what you can, here, here's my, here's a mentality that, you know what I don't even know if I should say this.

Age: Yeah yeah go for it

Jen: Go on

JC: Go for it, ok fine. Um this is the mentality that a friend of mine who is, should I say a small person like, I guess it's not pc to say midget

Age: Yeah

JC: But he's a midget and he was like, look and I was like it's gotta be tough to you know like date and things like that. We had this conversation, I was you know 'cause I was like it's gotta be tough there's not like a lot of females you know, short, shorter women and you know are you, is it hard to get a date, and he goes, he goes I play the numbers game, man. He goes if there's a 1000 girls in the room I ask a 1000 girls, he goes, 'cause you know, not everyone in the world can say no.

Jen: Yeah, that's true

JC: He goes, if I ask a 1000 people all I need is one of them to say yes.

Age: That's great.

JC: So he plays the numbers game though, so there's hope for you.

Age: Yeah you given me confidence, I'm gonna play the game.

Jen: And if you say you're the echo for NSYNC, that's gotta pull a couple of chicks.

JC: Yeah you're totally cool.

Age: Yeah I'll put it on my business card now. Age Hot 30

Jen: Official NSYNC echo

Age: I like it. Hey mate, ah thank you so much mate, we'll speak to you soon.

JC: Alright man, take care.
