What's going on between Bai Ling and former boy-bander JC Chasez?

The pair looked mighty close after Kimora Lee Simmons' Baby Phat show last Saturday. And they didn't part company until the next day.

"She spent the night in his suite at the Mandarin Oriental hotel," says a snitch. Ling has most recently been dating French director (and former husband of Milla Jovovich) Luc Besson. But when I asked her recently with whom she planned to walk down the red carpet at the "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" premiere, Ling answered cryptically, "I don't know. I just met JC Chasez - maybe I'll go with him."

Another source tells me, "He was in Florida for a Gap ad, so he didn't go to the premiere. But she invited him."

Chasez, for his part, didn't mention his new friend when I spoke with him at Marquee recently.

Adds my snitch, "I don't think Bai considers him her boyfriend. She'd say she was still with Luc."

Reps for Ling and Chasez did not comment.

Just how laid-back was 'N Syncer Joey Fatone's wedding to his longtime sweetheart Kelly Baldwin? When it came time to cut the cake - a replica of Baldwin's off-th-rack Ulla-Maija dress - the bride wrapped herself in a protective tablecloth. Then "I shoved the cake in his face!" says the exultant bride. "I enjoyed it. But my makeup artist cried when Joey put the cake in my face. And the hairstylist was like, 'Please don't hit the hair cause I'll have to wash it.' "

At the Sept. 9 wedding, held in New York's Oheka Castle in Cold Spring Hills, Long Island, even serious moments had levity. When Baldwin, 27, and Fatone, 27, exchanged self-written vows based on the Helen Keller quote "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart," Fatone amused his 255 guests by blurting out an expletive when he couldn't hold back his tears. "It was a surreal dream," says Baldwin. "We kept going, 'Whose wedding are we at?' "

After dinner the band Smash Mouth played and guests sampled a Ferris wheel, giant slide (Joey's mom, Phyllis Fatone, went up and down in her ball gown) and bumper cars. Despite recent talk of the band's breakup, all four of Fatone's 'N Sync mates came for the festivities - Justin Timberlake solo, Chris Kirkpatrick in jeans. "That must be Chris's formal wear," Baldwin jokes. "We're glad he came fully clothed." Fatone doesn't expect any of the guys to follow his lead any time soon. "They're on the 40-year plan. Some of the guys change their girlfriends like they change their underwear," he says with a laugh. Then again, he adds, "I wouldn't have said I'm the marrying kind three or four years ago. But I am now."

Fatone came up with the idea to make the wedding cake a replica of Baldwin's dress. "The pastry chef was scratching his head, like, 'Oh God,' " she says.

"We had a great time together," Fatone says of 'N Syncers Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass (both behind Baldwin), JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick. "They were happy for me."

Daughter Briahna, 3, was flower girl - and married her Pooh doll.
